Ebbsfleet Development Corporation are funding Runway Training to deliver an employability programme to give local people the skills to work in  a booming industry

The construction sector in Dartford and Gravesham is thriving currently and employers need people with the right skills.

Ebbsfleet Development Corporation, the organisation behind Ebbsfleet Garden City, have therefore partnered with Runway Training, a Kent-based training provider, to deliver a brand-new programme giving local people the skills employers need right now.

Ebbsfleet Development Corporation want to assist people in local communities through the reskilling and upskilling programme, to follow career paths in construction so that the economic growth of the Garden City stays within the local area.

If you are unemployed or on a low income and would like to upskill to find work in this busy sector, please contact Ben March benmarch@runwaytraining.co.uk or call him on 01732 402 402 or speak to your Job Coach at your Job Centre Plus. We particularly welcome Dartford and Gravesham Borough residents and have programmes specifically for women and for young people 16-24 years old.

The programme comprises a 5-day course of work-readiness training including soft skills and employability, followed by a short taster session with a construction employer.

Candidates who successfully complete the programme will then be supported through their Health & Safety Level 1 and CSCS card exam and helped with finding employment or further training.

Lara Pool, Skills Coordinator, Ebbsfleet Development Corporation said “Ebbsfleet Garden City provides a wealth of career opportunities in the built environment from both aspiring trades personnel, such as bricklayers, carpenters and plumbers, to experienced site managers and town planners. We have a particular desire to work with ladies and young people as they often do not associate themselves with construction careers, but there are opportunities for all within the sector.”

The training programme is being held at venues within Dartford and Gravesham Boroughs between January and March 2022, with the application and pre-selection process open now. Referral partners include Job Centre Plus, local Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprises (VCSEs), community networks and Local Authorities.

Oliver Trailor Managing Director of Runway Training said “we are delighted to be working with Ebbsfleet Development Corporation to up-skill local people and support them into employment. The programme is supported by employers in the Garden City and we look forward to welcoming our first cohort very soon.”

The programme is free  to candidates via funding from Ebbsfleet Development Corporation for those unemployed or on a low income. Candidates are welcome from Dartford and Gravesham Boroughs with places also available for suitable candidates from across the wider North Kent region.

Those interested or those who can refer suitable people onto the inspiring programme, should contact Ben March benmarch@runwaytraining.co.uk or call him on 01732 402 402
