Ebbsfleet Development Corporation (EDC) is inviting applications for Ebbsfleet Design Forum, which will support high standards in new developments across Ebbsfleet Garden City.

Ebbsfleet Development Corporation was established by the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (formerly the Ministry for Housing, Communities and Local Government) to drive the delivery of a 21st Century Garden City in Ebbsfleet, North Kent. Ebbsfleet Garden City spans an area of over 1000 hectares, within which the Corporation are championing several large-scale developments, including significant investment in infrastructure, utilities, highways, transportation, housing, commercial space, along with green and blue leisure space.

Since launching in 2015, Ebbsfleet Development Corporation has driven the delivery of the UK’s first new Garden City for over 100 years, all on former chalk quarries on North Kent, with the creation of up to 15,000 homes and 20,000 new jobs for the local and surrounding community.

They are now seeking members for their Design Forum, an expert-led working group created to ensure continued commitment to delivering characterful and distinctive homes, and streets that are informed by the landscape and cultural heritage of the local area. The Design Forum will provide independent expert advice and help Ebbsfleet Development Corporation meet their commitment to create quality homes and neighbourhoods, an enterprising economy, and a connected, healthy, and sustainable place to live and work.

Professor Sadie Morgan, Chair Ebbsfleet Design Forum, said:

“As the first new Garden City in a hundred years, Ebbsfleet is an exciting opportunity to explore how urban design can support quality of life in the 21st century.  With such a rich and dramatic landscape, every part of the Garden City’s four distinct areas has such potential to deliver exemplar place-making.”

Neil Cameron, Chair of the Ebbsfleet Development Corporation Planning Committee, said:

“EDC welcomes the Design Forum’s contribution to shaping Ebbsfleet into an attractive, healthy and dynamic place to live, work and play. Designs will be reviewed at the earliest stages, allowing time for the forum’s comments to be taken on board and revisions made well in advance of schemes being submitted as planning applications.”

The forum will have around 25 members with a wide range of skills and expertise, and applications are welcome from experts in the following areas:

  • architecture
  • landscape and public realm
  • urban design
  • inclusive design
  • transport planning / civil engineering
  • sustainable design including climate change resilience
  • heritage / townscape
  • arts and culture
  • development delivery

Recruitment packs can be requested at ebbsfleet@frame-projects.co.uk
Applications should be addressed to Frame Projects, which is managing the Design Forum to maintain the independence of its advice.

The closing date for applications is Friday 24 June 2022.
