Before she discovered the BetterPoints app Diljeet openly admitted to putting her own health and wellbeing on the back burner. Exercise was not a priority and something she only did once a week.

In her role as a Health and Wellbeing Team leader she supported individuals and groups to help their mental wellbeing. That involves leading support groups, exercise classes and group walks. But she found that her own wellbeing was being a pushed aside.

Here is what she said about how using the BetterPoints app and joining Get Active in Ebbsfleet changed all that:

“When I first started using the app I was going out walking maybe once a week. As time went on I started getting out more and more. I enjoyed seeing my time outside go up and earning the BetterPoints.

One of the features of the app I really like is the map of where I’ve been, and this helps motivate me. After being an app user for two users I’ve changed how I travel. Now I don’t take the car when I have to go into the office, I go there on two feet.

I then asked Diljeet what health benefits has she noticed now she is more actie:

I suffer with high blood pressure and over this time (with a combination of carefully monitored medication and exercise) my blood pressure is now back within the normal range. This is such a relief!

Being active is an ingrained habit in my life, and now I’m walking or running 4/5 times a week. Not only that, it’s encouraged me to make other changes and healthier choices. For example, I no longer take sugar in my tea, avoid fried foods and am eating better. As a result I’ve lost 5 kilos in weight.

A combination of the Covid Lockdown and the BetterPoints app has made me realise I needed to get out even more.  So I started the Couch to 5k programme and now I’m running too.  I was so pleased to hit the milestone of running non- stop for 30 minutes. The knock-on effect of all this is I now regularly go to the gym for resistance classes. This is because I’m so much fitter thanks to being more active, and have gained in confidence too

What’s so unique about BetterPoints is that I can treat myself to vouchers (they really helped my Christmas shopping) but the charities I support benefit too (Kent Air Ambulance & ellenor hospice). The reason why I like this feature is because every month I can give a donation to someone because I’ve been more active.” – Diljeet N from Gravesend
